Regional Comedians to Showcase in Perth Fringe

The Comedy Emporium (TCE) Western Australia presents

in partnership with their regional sisters TCE Bunbury, TCE Mandurah, and TCE Geraldton

and Goldfields counterpart The Comedy Hour (TCH) Kalgoorlie

AFTER DISCOVERING Perth people had access to running water, regional WA’s top stand-up comics, improvisers and musicians have decided to take some time off from listening to radio broadcasts of Landline to perform a huge showcase at the 2016 FRINGE WORLD Festival in Perth. Comedians from Geraldton’s The Comedy Emporium will road trip to Perth, meeting their mates from Bunbury, Mandurah and Kalgoorlie there to present the expected sell-out third Regional WA Comedy Showcase at Rosie O'Grady's in Northbridge. The showcase will also be performed regionally and streamed online.

The Comedy Emporium Director Julian Canny said this was one of the most exciting opportunities for regional comedy.

“Most of our time we spend just pushing WA Secessionism, but occasionally we also write comedy,” he said.

“For years we have been bringing comedians from the metro areas to perform regionally.

“We’ve invested a lot of time into workshops and shows in regional areas, and we’re super proud now that we have this really quite good regional comedy scene.

“Opportunities to show in a festival like FRINGE WORLD is a huge step up to put our regional talent on the map, and give Perth people the chance to give their ticket royalties to regions.”

The show will feature Comeduand from TCE Bunbury, comics from TCE Geraldton and TCE Mandurah, and TCH Kalgoorlie improv troupe. Music from fellow FRINGE WORLD performers Fat Girls in Bike Shorts will round out the showcase.

The regional kids are up against a big challenge, as they need to attract an audience amongst all the brilliant international acts performing at the coming festival.

“There are some amazing acts this year,” Canny said.

“I would tell you about them, but I want you to come to our show instead.”

With TCE working hard to develop the regional comedy scene in particular, this venture aims to boost the entire regional arts and culture industry.
