Miss Westralia is a new musical and coming of age tale about the first Miss Australia, Beryl Mills. The story follows Beryl’s prize winning tour of the USA with her mother and Frank Packer, whose paper The Daily Guardian sponsored the competition. Beryl is initially enthralled by the world of celebrity that she encounters abroad, but is ultimately disenfranchised by it and longs for her country home. This is a story that swells with contemporary relevance as Beryl learns to stand her ground and shape her identity as a young Australian woman.
The creative minds behind the music and lyrics of the show are award winning musical duo Jake Nielsen and Matthew Predny. The book has been written by Madeline Clouston, with support from Amelia Burke, who have both trained at WAAPA in theatre making for a contemporary audience.
Coming to Geraldton’s Queens Park Theatre in early 2019.
