Euphorium (Formally known as "The Comedy Emporium”) exists to inspire and develop the regional WA independent arts ecology by focusing on building artists, producers and space’s in which the community can invest directly in them. We are a social enterprise based in Geraldton WA and see a future where the role of the “Producer” is one of an innovator and leader in the arts sector. With a base of over 60 regional artists across our programs we focus on developing artists to a point where they can produce their own works that have been developed from a shared connection and cultural experience in our communities.
Julian Canny is the proud Ringleader of the arts producer Euphorium Creative (previously The Comedy Emporium) and the Creative Producer for Geraldton Fringe Festival Funtavia. Julian boasts proudly (regardless if you asked him or not) that these endeavours are social enterprises, and they aim to change the way we develop works and communities in regional areas by removing barriers to creating. Julian brings to the arts sector a unique background in sales management and business development while working across industry sectors as a consultant. Julian is committed to developing a regional arts market comprised of regional independent producers focused on sustainable industry practices as well as the importance of art in the role of cultural identity.
Growing up on a rural station in the middle of WA with her siblings until the age of 12, Jody's life was filled with Imaginative play. This meant she developed a passion for creative industries which led to her taking on the role as Creative Director at Euphorium Creative. With experience in both performing and teaching performing arts, improvisation theater and comedy, Jody leads our youth and artist programs including the Funtavia Jnr pilot. But all in all she guides artists through the process of creative development.
Kirsty works as a Marketing Assistant for Euphorium Creative and has taken on the acting role of Marketing Queen while our guru Kym Jefferies fulfills mum duties. Kirsty has a degree in Science Communication which she obtained at The University of Western Australia, and has been training her whole post-school life on how to make boring things sound exciting. Working for Euphorium has presented new challenges for Kirsty as she endeavours to enhance her marketing skills that go hand in hand with her vast knowledge on communications.
Emma McNerney General Manager
Emma McNerney (nee Howell) is the General Manager and all round Chaos Coordinator of performing arts production house The Comedy Emporium, owner/manager of event management company It’s All Sorted and co-founder of a fresh regional arts production company Euphorium. Emma is pleased to say that these endeavours are social enterprises, and they aim to change the way we develop works and communities in regional areas. Emma has a unique background in community development and projects, and continues to work within this role as part of the Geraldton community for a long-standing not-for-profit. Emma is involved in the Midwest community in a variety of other ways which enhance her connections and vitality as part of the Euphorium team.
Minna works as the Assistant Producer here at Euphorium Creative, she is our secret
behind the scene machine that keeps the company focused and on purpose. Minna loves supporting others to get things done and generally if something gets done on time it’s because she’s had a hand in it. As one of the original youth improve stars she is also passionate about performance and has been part of Comedy Euphorium improve since 2015. Loving what she does with us she has turned her Gap year into Life and has promised to be with us for at least another year. She also jokes that she cracks the whip to get the Ringleader into shape and organised – “you are welcome Julian!”
Tiny Works Original Theatre Coach
Currently studying to become a primary school teacher Mila Krippner grew up performing throughout her youth and her passion led her to study performing arts in New Zealand.Mila bought her talents back to our shores where she has appeared in many of Theatre 8’s theatrical and musical productions, directed junior theatre and is performing in an original works theatre piece “What My Mother Told Me” in Perth Fringe. Mila continues to mentor and direct young actors through Euphorium Creative’s Tiny Works Program guiding them through the creation of original theatre pieces created and performed by kids for kids.
Prodigies Improv Coach
Kim has been involved in Euphorium Creative for over five years both on and off stage. It was during one of Euphoriums first Improv shows that she was unexpectedly ushered on stage and first realised her passion for on the spot comedy that is Improv and standup. She went on to train in Improvisation for three years as assistant coach and this year has stepped into the role of Prodigies Improv Theatre Coach . Kim also performs and facilitates stand up comedy workshops.
